Type design: Legibility, Readability, and Crowding

Legibility, Readability are two of key factors involved in designing a typeface but they are often confused for each other. This talk looks at these two aspects from both cultural as well as optical and harmonic perspectives. The talk concludes with a brief look at one of the newest ways in which science and type design can overlap. This talk is for the general public and does not assume a design or type education. Nevertheless it will also probably surprise even those most familiar with type design.

Eben Sorkin recently graduated with distinction from the MA in Type Design (MATD) course in Reading, UK. Prior to taking the MA course Eben lived in Alaska for seven years where he split his time between freelance design work, renovating a house and garden and teaching himself type design. Eben's professional design history ranges from video games to logo and identity work.

The lecture is in english and is open to the public.
